After a long hilly walk the day before, today was going to be a short gentle walk, breakfast in our B&B, bag packed and off we go again, it's a bit damp this morning, but it's not wet enough to Don the waterproof.
A gentle climb out of Combe Martin a few pictures of the bay as we go, 20 minutes in we see a retired couple we spoke to the day before they are heading up the road we are going down, they have missed the turn for the path, so that means we have as well.
We follow them to get back on track, a Scottish couple on day four of the path, they have until August to try and complete it, we walk a good section with them, chatting away about there travels, it even turns out they used to live in a place called Holybush next to a village I know very well called Dalrymple just outside of Ayr, their regular haunt was a hotel called the Kirkton Inn 🤔 A place I know very well, as my Dad's wife ran it for over ten year 😂 small world.
We are so engrossed in out chat, we take another wrong turn onto a campsite, quickly corrected and campsite name noted for a possible return visit, we arrive in watermouth bay and say goodbye to the lovely couple and wish them luck in their epic walk, although we did bump into them again later in the day.
We push onto our final destination which is only about 2 miles ish, the section of the path doesn't have the really steep up and downs, and hugs the sea, no wildlife spots today, Ilfracombe in site it's one more last steep hike to the top and the view point of the harbour and the town.
A coffeee in the bay and a quick check of the bus timetables, we need to go to Barnstaple to get a bus back to Lynton, it takes a bit of effort and patience, but we eventually reach the car back in Lynton about 3.15.
It's been a great time out with my mate taking in great views, I'm not going to lie, we both struggled with our old knees🤣 but this sort of stuff is great for your soul and clears your head.
Cheers Devon 👍😁
