On Thursday 8th August I got away from work around 2.30 I was owed a bit of time back, I got straight into my car and drive the 30 minutes to Minehead, one of my favourite local huants.
I quickly change but on my boots and make for the Coast Path, starting at North Hill I sweep round the harbour up through the woodland, soon Minehead disappears behind me.
The promise of rain is looking more likely by the minute, as I reach the top of the track the view opens up across to the Bristol channel and Wales on the other side, it's becoming very cloudy and dark, 2 miles into my walk and I'm right on the South West Coast Path on the most rugged path, wild Ponies and cattle grazing either side of me.
Now when I'm out alone, music is my friend, it helps me switch off and enjoy the real natural place I am walking, 4 miles in and guess what, the rain had arrived as they forecasted, only problem for me, I've left my waterproof in the car 😂 so on I go for another Ten minutes, then I realise it's time to turn back and get back into Minehead.
Not really out as long as I would have liked, but I meet work friend, another Geordie, in the aptly named hairy dog pub right in the middle of town, a small drink for me and a chat to some of the locals, it's time I head home back along the sea front.
I'm blessed to have such nice places to walk so close to me, next time I'm round this area will be to finish the Coleridge way.
Saturday 10th August
I'm up early again, shall I rest 😂 no bike in the car and off I go, I parked the car in Bridgwater then ride along the canal out of town, at the end of the town I cut over onto the river parret national bike route and head toward my destination Chedzoy.
Again a storm is forecast later this afternoon and I think they have it right again.
I only choose to ride to beat the weather today but still get out, after about 6 miles I reach a little village of Chedzoy, a quick drink and a banana it's time to ride back, only problem now is riding into the wind, now that's bloody hard work.
So is it biking or walking I enjoy the most 😁 well on the bike you cover far more distance in a shorter time, if it's not windy I enjoy it, but it's always going to be my walks that get the number one vote, it just means more and makes me feel part of my surroundings.
Now my phone has gone flat, but I reckon I've cycled over 12 miles and I'm tired but just pleased to be out again.
Once back to the car and my bike is on board, I call home to let them know I'm heading back and to stick the kettle on, good thing about starting early is you have all day to do other things.
Cycling. 🤔
Walking 😃
Just get out and enjoy whatever 😁
